The Taliban claimed responsibility for a car bomb which killed at least five people in Kabul and wounded dozens more on Monday evening.

Some of the wounded were rushed to a city centre hospital for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries.

Eyewitness Mansoor recalled the moment the bomb exploded: “I just saw a burning light while I was watching TV. When I opened my eyes, I saw only doctors around me.”

The first blast struck near Green Village, a compound which houses aid agencies and international agencies. Gunfire followed in the aftermath along with a secondary smaller explosion.

The explosion came as US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad was visiting Kabul to discuss with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani a draft peace accord reached with the Taliban which could see thousands of US troops withdrawn from Afghanistan.
